Album Info:The Moshassuck Valley Railroad was a small, just over a mile long, industrial railroad built and operated by the Saylesville Finishing Company, a textile finisher. It ran from the bleachery yard in the Saylesville section of Lincoln, Rhode Island to a junction in the Woodlawn section of Pawtucket, Rhode Island with its only connection, the New Haven Railroad. In its early days it had a fleet of freight equipment and ran a steam driven passenger car between Woodlawn and the mill yard in Saylesville for the employees, simply called the Dummy! In 1953 the Moshassuck Valley purchased a new General Electric 45 tonner, the No 8 to replace the last aging steam locomotive. With the demise of textiles the road was eventually sold to Standard Transportation and latter to the Providence and Worcester Railroad. Today its referred to as the Moshassuck Running Track, or simply as the MUD. There's a Y in Woodlawn that's used by the Providence and Worcester and occasionally by Amtrak to turn equipment

Description:  Steam locomotives lived here! Originally covered with a brick pattern asphalt siding, its been recovered with aluminum siding. The 3 doors have also been changed. They would keep the No 8 in the middle stall, and the No 7 a Baldwin 0-6-0 was kept in the right stall until it was scrapped at Fox Point in Providence, Rhode Island.

Description:  The Moshassuck Valley Railroad was purchased from the Sayles Bleachery by Standard Transportation. They simply cut an opening in the side of the engine house, and you had an office. Its a used door - Yankee thrift!

Description:  Building on the right is part of Watt Terminal - they could unload 6 cars at a time. Durastone - manufactures of cement products, would get a car change-out once, and sometimes twice a day. The orange steel work is an overhead crane that runs on rails. Cement now comes in by truck and Watt Terminal is out of business

Description:  No 9 purchased for the heavier cars going to Collyer Wire. The No 8 a 45 tonner only has 1 traction motor per truck connected with a chain. They'ed service the No 8's oil reservoirs right about here with a Vermont Maid maple syrup bottle filled with chain oil.
